1980s: The Final Years

A Bittersweet Farewell

As the 1980s arrived, The Wallace and Ladmo Show continued its beloved run, even as the television landscape began to shift. The cast remained as charming and committed as ever, still performing for live audiences and delivering clever skits with humor that crossed age lines. However, the decade would mark the end of an era. On December 29, 1989, after more than 35 years and countless Ladmo Bags, the final show aired. By then, it had earned nine regional Emmy Awards and the undying love of its viewers. In a touching moment, the last Ladmo Bag was given to Wallace himself. Though the curtain fell, the show’s spirit lived on—in tributes, museums, murals, and in the hearts of those who grew up in the glow of their TV sets, watching Wallace, Ladmo, and the unforgettable Pat McMahon.
